Nanaimo, BC

Kaya is a second generation settler with ancestry from India, Scotland and England. She is grateful to be living with her partner and two children on the unceded traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, colonially known as Nanaimo.

Kaya has an MPH with a focus on health promotion and health equity. She brings over a decade of experience working at all levels of government in various program, planning and policy development roles, as well as 12 years of experience as a non-profit board director. In her time as a consultant, she has had the pleasure of partnering with First Nations communities and non-profit organizations to support them in achieving their goals.

Kaya loves to help the helpers – she specializes in policy analysis and development, as well as project leadership in the areas of public health, mental health and substance use. She has enjoyed supporting non-profit organizations with policy review, restructuring and creation in order to prepare to apply for accreditation.

Her most recent work involves project leadership on a multi-year project in partnership with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) to map the province’s substance use recovery system, and develop digital tools to support both community members and staff to navigate this system.

Kaya is passionate about addressing the impact of systemic barriers, and about helping to plan, design and implement innovative, community-driven solutions.
