Lucy Mackrell is a social worker and Epidemiology PhD candidate living on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek peoples. Before beginning her doctoral studies, she worked for five years in the field of mental health and substance use as a clinical social worker. Her current research focuses on sexual health implementation science, where she uses mixed-methods and epidemiologic approaches to improve access to testing and care.
Lucy has contributed to several nationally funded projects and peer-reviewed publications and has been recognized with competitive national research fellowships. Her recent work includes a qualitative study exploring barriers to STBBI testing among unhoused individuals and a quantitative project using multilevel modeling to examine intersecting risk factors for syphilis seropositivity. She is currently leading a mixed-methods project that applies econometric modeling to understand stated preferences for sexual health services.
Lucy is passionate about integrating her clinical experience with mixed-methods epidemiology and statistical methods to investigate outcomes related to the determinants of health and to evaluate health policies and services.
