Keira is a first generation White settler, grateful to be living on the traditional unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən people of the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations.

Keira has been a nurse for over 15 years. She started her journey as a Licenced Practial Nurse working across the spectrum of the healthcare system, then found the heart of her work when she became a Registered Nurse and connected to the community of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Since then, she has followed a varied path of primary care and public health clinical practice and leadership in substance use and harm reduction, including navigating complex care in non-traditional outreach settings, leading interdisciplinary teams, and providing regional education and service coordination. Keira has also been involved in large projects such as designing and leading the educational infrastructure for a health authority service delivery redesign; creating and reviewing regional program practices, policies, and initiatives; and designing and conducting research studies. During her graduate studies, Keira became particularly interested in youth and perinatal experiences with substance use care, exploring ways in which systems- and individual-level practice and policies interact with the needs of these populations.

In more recent years, Keira has focused on expanding her passion for academic writing by blending it with her clinical practice knowledge as a professional medical writer. This has included researching, writing, and reviewing provincial-level guidelines, practice updates, educational documents, and courses, as well as creating best practice modeling scenarios for provincial education and reviewing educational content for cultural safety inclusion.

Keira's strengths lie in having a breadth of experience across the healthcare system; being detail-oriented and adaptable; delineating process and operational procedures; and adhering to high standards of excellence. In all her work, Keira strives to highlight the importance of compassionate and humanizing substance use care that facilitates genuinely accessible and supportive interactions for all populations.
